ACME Tools Oy (DEMO)

Three generations of the Lehtinen family, one corner of Töölö, and a back room of replacement parts the chains stopped carrying in 2003.

“My father opened this shop after he came home from sea. We still stock his three best ideas and a lot of things he'd have called nonsense.”

— Jouni Lehtinen, Owner 2nd generation

Tarina · 1965 — tähän päivään

Eino Lehtinen came home from twelve years at sea in 1965 and opened a small ironmongery on Mannerheimintie with a loan from his sister. The first month he sold 47 things — most of them screws. He kept the receipts in a Marlboro tin we still have in the back room.

His son Jouni took over in 1998, expanded into electrical and sauna parts, and added the bike-delivery service after his neighbour broke an ankle carrying paint home in the snow. His daughter Saana joined full-time in 2021 to run online ordering and the locksmithing.

Three generations, one shop, one corner of Helsinki. We are deliberately not opening a second location.

Took over from his father Eino in 1998 after fifteen years as a maintenance engineer for VR. Knows where every screw lives. Plays the accordion badly.

“They taught me how to do it myself”

Came in to ask someone to come fix a dripping tap. Left with the right washer, a five-minute explanation, and €4 poorer instead of €120. Honest people.

“My first stop, every job in Töölö”

Cheaper than the chains on commodity stuff because they bulk-buy with two other independents. And when I need something weird pre-1990 Whitworth fasteners last month they're the only ones in the city who have it.

“Sauna stones in March, every time”

They're busy in sauna season so go early. Service is brusque-but-warm — very Finnish. Stones are properly graded, not the mixed bag you get at Bauhaus.
